Tint Magazine welcomes first time as well as experienced freelance writers, artists, photographers, and graphic designers, and especially encourages women whose ethnic, spiritual or lifestyle perspective is not widely represented in the media. We also accept submissions of original art for our stories and cover. We deal with issues of the mind, body, spirit, entertainment, culture, style, and real life which include features that cover socio-political issues, arts and culture, current events, activism and more—all with an unconventional slant from women’s historically and socially disregarded voices.
LANGUAGE, TONE AND STYLE
We publish strong, radical, and highly-opinionated pieces pertinent especially to women of color, but that any woman can appreciate. We love diverse, sassy, savvy, creative, original, edgy, insightful, thought provoking, entertaining, challenging, well-researched, engaging stories and works of art. We prefer journalistic style to academic style writing. Tint is a progressive magazine; discriminatory language of any kind will not be tolerated. We are looking for fresh, witty writing that engages and entertains. Over-the-top attempts at sounding young and hip are discouraged (Hint: Tint is not Teen, Cosmo, or Ebony Magazine for that matter). Let your natural voice come through!
